How to Disable File Explorer Command Bar in Windows 11

Windows 11 brings some UI design changes from the Taskbar to Rounded Corners to File Explorer. You may get to experience the new designs changes all around in Windows 11. Microsoft has redesigned File Explorer by making some cosmetic changes to icons and command bar.

Microsoft has completely scraped off the conventional ribbon that appears on the top of the File Explorer with some useful tools. In addition, Microsoft brings the new Command Bar in the File Explorer with some pretty basic tools such as Copy, Paste, Cut, Rename, delete, etc. For some users, this new Command Bar might be great and convenient, but some users may find it rubbish.

Disable File Explorer Command Bar in Windows 11

There are two ways to disable the File Explorer Command Bar in Windows 11.

  • Using Registry Editor
  • Running a Command on the Command Prompt

1. Use Registry Editor to Disbale Explorer Command Bar

  1. Open the Notepad.
  2. Copy the following line in the notepad.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassesCLSID{d93ed569-3b3e-4bff-8355-3c44f6a52bb5}InprocServer32]
@="0"
  1. Press the Ctrl + S to save the file.
  2. Enter the file name ‘Disbale Explorer Command Bar’ followed by ‘.reg’ file extension.
  3. Select the ‘Save As type’ as ‘All Files’.
  4. Click the Save Button to save the file on the desktop.
  5. Double click the File to run the file.
  6. Click the ‘Yes’ when you see the prompt.
  7. This will create a new key in the Registry Editor.
  8. Restart the computer.

Once you complete the steps, you will see the Command Bar is no longer visible in the File Explorer, The conventional toolbar ribbon will come back instead.

2. Use Command Prompt to Disable Command Bar in File Explorer

We are going to do the same thing using the Command Prompt. We will create a key in the Registry Editor to disable the File Explorer Command Bar in Windows 11. Here’s how to do this using CMD.

  1. Open the Command Prompt Admin.
  2. Enter the following command in the Command Prompt, then hit the Enter button.
reg add "HKCUSoftwareClassesCLSID{d93ed569-3b3e-4bff-8355-3c44f6a52bb5}InprocServer32" /f /ve​
  1. Wait until the command is being executed.
  2. Exit the Command Prompt.
  3. Restart the computer.

Once you complete the steps, the Command Bar should no longer be visible in the File Explorer.
To enable the Command Bar in the File explorer again, we need to delete the Registry key from the Registry Editor Database. Use the following command in the command prompt to do this.

reg delete "HKCUSoftwareClassesCLSID{d93ed569-3b3e-4bff-8355-3c44f6a52bb5}InprocServer32" /f​

Once the command operation is successful, the new Command View will come back.
